I'm sorry, but I am not familiar with the area, Where's Brown's Bank? Is low tide a good time to be anywhere in Plymouth Harbor? Gif
Re: Blue Moon Sunset/Moonrie Paddle Brown's Bank, Plymth Sat
Gif,
Browns Bank is just outside Plymouth Harbor. (No GPS, can't give the coordinates!!) There are enough channels to have water to paddle - the last time a few of us left from Nelson Park and came back at low tide without any problems. Nelson Park would be a decent launch site as opposed to using Plymouth Beach as the Plymouth police like to have the beach cleared by 10:00.

Kit and I are interested. You do realize that the full moon is Friday.
We can do either Friday or Saterday night
Friday, Low tide is 6:02 pm and it is an extreme low (-0.24 feet), Sun set is 7:17 pm
Saturday, low tide is 6:48 pm, also an extreme low (-0.28 feet), Sun set is 7:15 pm

Thanks about the note on Friday - I'm planning the Saturday night version as the moon comes up (almost) in the dark, and although it's just past full, I think it's more beautiful rising in the dark. Plus the traffic this weekend...
I'll gather a consensus on a time to meet. There are a few folks that have to get there a little late. Will updtae in a day or two.

I'd like to come to this, but we have some major plans for Saturday night, so I'm going to have to pass on that one.
Here's a satellite image probably taken near high tide, so most of Browns Bank is submerged, but at lower tide, much of that area to the right is exposed.

I was on an NSPN official trip some years back where the trip leader declared that Brown's Bank must have washed away over the previous winter. Never mind that it appears on nautical charts dating back to the 1700s. She couldn't find it, therefore, it didn't exist. Of course, it would have helped if she looked for it close to low tide.

I remember that trip!!! Didn't you end up towing somebody OUT?
Will you and Kate be able to go on this? FYI - you introduced me to Brown's Bank - many thanks for that!

Eileen: There was some talk of towing someone on the way out. There was definitely towing on the way back in.
Kate is in Newfoundland right now, but I am thinking about joining you. Will there be a band?
I don't remember that I introduced you to Brown's Bank! But, you're welcome!

I was on that one too. I ended up getting rolled by a wave coming back in. I got broached, but managed my first blind combat roll.
Steve Roberts was wondering what was glowing in the water............it was my head light that came off when I rolled
It was a fun evening.

if there is no development during the day I might be in, will ask Jay as we love the nite paddles ahahhaha.
Jim, Paul etc, not sure if they have lights. Will check on that. Nelson park is good place to launch but during low tide is essential to stay close to the dock and then move towards the channel, cross it and hug the shore keeping the Duxbury Pier Light on left. Traffic might be retarded especially on Sunday night for folks coming back from Gurnet point. The park has regulation from dawn until dusk but I'm not sure if that is at any point reflecting the parking.

Re: Blue Moon Sunset/Moonrie Paddle Brown's Bank, Plymth Sat
OK-let's move this to Plymouth Beach - just past Sandy's Restaurant, at the hole in the wall. We won't have to watch the channel, and this will be an easier put-in and take-out than Nelson Park due to the tide, limited water, and the fact that the ramp at Nelson Park is undermined, leading to a longer carry and concerns from all about available water.
I checked the website for Nelson Park, and they want people out by 7:00 on Saturdays. So, we'll launch from Plymouth Beach, and have a nice conversation w/ the local police about the beach being closed when we return. I'll pretend I haven't met them there before!!!
Does this work with everyone?

Wouldn't you expect to be back to the beach by 10 anyway?
Are they still charging for entry at Plymouth Beach? And until what time on Saturday?
Thanks,
Mark

FYI... The trip is Saturday.
Re: Blue Moon Sunset/Moonrie Paddle Brown's Bank, Plymth Sat
Meet at 5:30 (yes, on Saturday). By then there is no charge to get onto the beach. I've typically gotten back just around 10, we'll shoot to get there just before 10.
I'll bring a bocce set.

Is there room for one more? I have paddled Plymouth harbor often, but never in the dark!
