Weymouth, Abigail Adams - Saturday, 10/6/12, 9:00am Launch

Post by norm »

I'm hoping the weathermen are wrong about rain for Saturday. I have an afternoon (outdoor) commitment and have to be done paddling by about 1:30pm, so I'd like to go somewhere local and simple in case I end up paddling alone. The plan is to meet at Abigail Adams Park on route 3A in Weymouth at 8:30am and launch by 9:00am. The trip route will be flexible, anywhere but into the Back River because we did that recently. Possibly I'd like to head out into Hingham Bay and out through West Gut and into Quincy Bay hugging the Houghs Neck shoreline and then turn around and come back. But, I really don't care about the destination, just want to get on the water. Could go into the Quincy Town River or Fore River if anyone would prefer that. Will stop somewhere for a lunch break.

Here is a Google Maps link to the Abigail Adams Park put-in parking lot: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Abigail+Adams+Park,+Weymouth,+MA&hl=en&sll=42.346302,-71.261959&sspn=0.011958,0.029483&oq=abigail+adams+park,+&t=h&hq=Abigail+Adams+Park,+Weymouth,+MA&z=16

Wet exit/Rescue skills are required.
I would recommend at least a 15 foot boat with front and rear bulkheads and spray skirt.
Ability to paddle 10-14 miles.
Bring a lunch or snacks, water and sunscreen.

Please respond if you plan to attend.

I may be there, but don't wait for me.

FYI, Low tide is at 9:57 will that affect the put in location?

You are right. I made these plans during a busy day at work and made a mistake on the tide timing, but I hope it will be ok because it is not a very low tide height. It is a +1.75 height at low, so I hope there will be enough water to get across the mud flat.

Thanks to all who came on what felt like last day of summer. Interesting vistas, nice weather and just enough lumps to make it interesting.

link to historic tide mill we viewed from the water, looking every bit as photogenic from land.

That was very cool. It has been totally rehabed.
It makes me want to go back at high tide so that i can go up under it.
