Washburn Island - May 31 - June3

Post by pat »

Edit: The trip is currently full. If you're still interested, keep an eye on this topic as the date approaches. Someone may wind up not being able to go, which will open a spot.

Hey folks, it's that time of year again.
Norm and Jordan have booked campsites at Washburn Island in Falmouth for the nights of May 31 thru June 2 (arrive Friday afternoon, leave Monday morning). We only have two sites booked for Sunday night, but I doubt that many people will be staying that long.

The price is $9 per person for the weekend, regardless of how long you stay. There are 12 total spots.

After you sign up and pay, please reply to this thread so everyone knows who's going. (This posts counts as my signup notice.)

Ok, now about food...

This will probably require more discussion, but it makes things a good deal easier if we can make communal meals. I'm willing to handle one, I'll bet Chip will do one, and I'm pretty sure that mondo-chef Tracey will do eight or ten. If you're a vegetarian or simply hate the idea of eating food that someone else has touched, maybe this isn't for you. But I know it's uncomfortable to be sitting there eating a dish of Tracey's beef bourguignon when the guy next to you is cracking open a crackers & cheese snack pack for dinner.

Again, this will require more discussion, but the communal meals will probably be some sort of extravagant (for being in the middle of nowhere) breakfast or dinner, and maybe people can fend for themselves for lunch. Once we talk about it more, we can come up with a fair "buy in" price for the communal meal option. And if you'd like to chef a meal or bring food for the community, we can talk about that as well.

And I personally guarantee that this year's weather will be better than last year's.

I've signed up Briggsy. I know he is out of touch, traveling, till mid-February. He told me before he left that he was interested in Washburn again and hopes to get the time off from work to join us.

If Jordan will pull my Weber smoker in the gear raft, I can make some Ribs.

Also, Pat, I am going to hold you to the weather guarantee.

I'll do anything you need me to, including towing the smoker!

I'm posting my personal ban on portage ahead of time for this trip, I'm launching where I landed :P

My excuse is, my new knee will still be under warranty and the inspector will be there to see if I void it

That would be great thanks! I don't know how much camping I'll really do, so borrowing would help. will it fit a twin air mattress?

Yeah, but last year he was 10 minutes late delivering hot coffee and beers to us during the hurricane, so we decided he can't come this year.

He was away on vacation when we got this all set up and I reserved a spot for him. He had hoped to stay the whole time this year when we talked about this in the fall. We've traded an email or two while he was away this month, lounging in Hawaii, and he said he won't be able to get the whole weekend off as he originally planned due to employee issues at the restaurant. He'll be coming out for just one night, same as last year's plan.

At least Dave should get one! I'd suggest a "kevlar layup" :P

We should stop rubbing his boat with bluefish when he isn't looking

Stay safe and have fun!

Assuming the calendar holds...I may be staying over in New Seabury that weekend. If so, I'll grab some donuts and muffins and paddle across from the end of the work road behind South Beach at sunrise on Sunday. You guys provide the coffee.

I'll update later.

There is a chance I might only be able to make it a daytrip for Saturday June 1. Is there a waiting list at this point?

Bea/Pat

Someone spoke to Jordan and I, at the Whale watch in April, about a slot if someone cancelled.
Not sure if he would still be interested, but if he is, and you find out you won't be going, Bea, could we wait
to post the slot, Pat, until after we get in touch with him?

Got Friday Night's Burger Fest all set, just wait till Thursday or Friday to pick up rolls.

Anyone else that is planning on / contributing to a communal meal, start chiming in and affirming what your plans are so we can fill in any blanks that may exist.........

Otherwise we will get a jump start on our diets :P

Mike, can you confirm that you will be swinging by on Sunday with some goodies as we get closer. I know how sporadic your calendar can get.
