Turkeys Do the Wave 7/9

Post by Mark »

There is some interest in a gathering at the Cohasset Wave on Wednesday evening July 9th for "park and play" in the rip next to Border St, followed by BBQ and steamers in the parking lot after. This is an annual summer ritual for Wave regulars, which will probably be repeated again later in the summer.

The Cohasset Wave is primarily a whitewater boat play spot, but can be fun in a sea kayak as well. There is also great viewing of all the action from the street/bridge and the rocks around the rip, so non-paddling friends/spouses can enjoy the evening there as well.

The current starts to run in usually about 3 hours before high tide and the wave peaks about an hour later. If you are new to this spot or want to warm up before the current gets cranking, plan to be on the water by 6PM on the 9th.

We usually unload boats in and launch from the parking lot next to the Harbor Master's shack on Border Street, then park vehicles on Border St. (A very short walk.)

I will bring my grill and some burgers. Dave (Briggsy) has offered to bring steamers. (BYOB)

If interested, please post here and mention if you want to join us for the BBQ after/what you can bring.

WW newbies welcome. This is a great learning spot and we will have experienced WW boaters there to coach and assist with rescues, if needed.

I'll be there, with steamers,stove(s), pot(s) etc.
If the weather is good I might do a day paddle in that area and end up at Cohasset.

One very important reminder that I forgot to mention. Please wear a helmet.

While the odds of hitting your head on anything under water are very low, the biggest risk when you get a bunch of boats into a small play spot is getting whcked in the head with somebody's paddle.

Just a reminder that this is not a catered event. Unless you are a mosquito.

WAVE UPDATE: I was at the wave tonight and it is in great shape on this week's tides. But it is starting early. If you want to get in some warmup time before the current gets going, plan to be in the water before 6:00 tomorrow if possible. It picks up fast.

Greenheads are here. A splash top is recommended.

Should be a great wave tomorrow night!

Unfortunately I had a work issue come up at the very last minute and I am stuck at my desk for a few hours so I won't make it to the water tonight but may do a drive-by.
