Sunset/moonrise paddle to the Spit - Sunday, Aug 10

Post by pat »

I suggest a 6pm launch.

For those who have never been, this is a very simple paddle - under 2 miles each way, and most likely flatwater the whole trip, with some possible chop once we get out of Herring Brook and into the North River.

All the lighting you can carry is a good idea, with headlamps at a minimum. Good chance that we'll have only moonlight on the trip back.

Optional moonlight paddle further up the North River to be led by Jordan.
(Sorry, dude. Couldn't help myself.)

We can discuss who's bringing what for food. I hosie pasta salad. I'll also bring the lighthouse for the launch spot.

I'm in! Haven't paddled with you Turkeys in a couple of years and I think my last one was the moonlight paddle with Norm and Lora. Looking forward to this! Can you please remind me of where we park Pat? I'll then look up the google for directions.

Below is the link to photos I took from a Wild Turkey Full moon paddle to the Spit a couple of years ago. It is such a beautiful adventure.

Sorry to miss it this year, but we have other commitments that night.

Enjoy the photos.

Barb,

Will you still be bringing the smashed sandwiches with the brownies?

I just want to be able to figure out what I should bring.

Thanks,

what is the street address I can get GPS going? If I remember right the put in is across the street from a golf area. Is it the Scituate Country Club? I remember what the put in looked like but not how to get to it :)

Love your website...just a flat water paddler...usually with group out of Blackstone Valley area...they have no paddles scheduled this weekend so this sounds like a wonderful opportunity to hook up with...I think we even did the North River once...so okay for "non ocean" kayak to join as asked previously?

New development....has anyone used a method to successfully keep a surgical wound completely dry during paddling? (crook/inside of elbow- often gets wet for me when paddling even flat water)
Doc said absolutely not to paddle in "that ocean water"- but I'm thinking there must be a pretty fool proof way. Experience friends?

Well, there's paddling and there's paddling. We're not going whitewater paddling, and I'm guessing that you're not planning on practicing your rolls while out there, right? A drytop would be added protection, and what would be more comfortable than wearing a neoprene drytop on a warm August evening? I'll bet something could be jury-rigged as a waterproof sleeve that could keep it sealed away from some random paddle drips.

I can try to get some special bandages at the hospital that completely protect wounds, etc. How big an area is it?

I got a hold of some Tegaderm film dressing bandages. Will completely protect the area from getting wet. Will you be going to the Thursday paddle tomorrow? Or I can give them to you at the launch site on Sunday.

Great Pam! I'm not planning on going to the Thurs. paddle right now so I'll meet you at the Driftway.
It's a small area, so, that will be awesome!

Barb, I bring a trailer myself. There isn't official trailer parking with ultra-long spaces. I just disconnect the trailer and put it in the space next to my car.

I will be bringing teriyaki chicken wings and there will be finger sandwiches.
If you have a beach chair or some kind of chair that can be transported, you should bring that along.
Can someone bring a tarp please, if you already own one?

Thanks,Tracey

Nancy,

If you enter 220 Driftway, Scituate, into your GPS, it takes you right to the put-in.
