CT River from White River Junction south to Bellows Falls

Post by tailspin »

This is a trip I just went on with some friends. It was from WhiteRiver Junction to Bellows Falls on the Connecticut River.
The best part was camping next to the Harpoon Brewery with it's pub and extreme sized Jenga blocks.
Two people ran the Sumner Falls without issue, then paddled back up and did it again.
Enjoy.

It's hard to see but in the last 3 pictures, there are some "fog vortexes" rising off the water. It was pretty cool to see those.

I would love to do a trip like that, if anyone is interested for next year.

I have been doing these types of trips for 13 years now. We always go in September / October since it's still fairly warm and the crowds and bugs are gone.
We try and pick a different location each year. Past trips have been the Allagash, Delaware Water Gap, many in the Adirondacks.
If you want to join us next year, email me. We love to bring in new people.

Hey John, We did the CT river from Dodge Falls Dam (near Ryegate) to Wilson Landing (just north of Hanover VT). It was a fab trip and a good distance without portaging around dams, which is the big issue with the CT river. Great pics from your trip. Good thing about the CT river is the shuttle between the start and finish, I-91 follows the river quite conveniently!

I think our trip in 2008 was pretty much the same part of the CT.

That was a great trip. That part of the river is more populated and a bit slower than below White River Junction.
I have been using the book "Connecticut River Boating Guide: Source to Sea". It's a bit old now and I haven't been able to find a good updated book.
