Charles River May 7th 2017

Post by Ken R »

I'll start by saying I forget how to post a trip, so I simply copied and pasted the trip posting from 2015 and changed the dates

Come celebrate the start of the paddling season!

When: Sunday May 7th, Picnic Lunch and social hour 11:00-Noon. Butts in boat 12:30.
Where: The parking lot near the Charles River Canoe and Kayak kiosk across from Harvard Stadium at 1071 Soldiers Field Road

The plan:
Head down river to the locks then head back upriver to the launch spot or continue upriver depending on time and conditions.

As we did in previous years, the group may split to allow for a shorter trip too (5-8 miles).

Please reply if you are planning to attend.

Because it will be a Sunday and the parking lot may be busy, I recommend carpooling if possible.

I'm hoping to relive past years spring paddle trips

Group is limited to 12 people
Wet exit/Rescue skills are required.
I would recommend at least a 15 foot boat.
Ability to paddle 9-12 miles, or 5-8 if second group is created.
Proper clothing and gear for cold water temps.

Thank you for posting this trip, Ken. I would love to join you.

Below is the link to photos I took from a kayak trip on the Charles River last spring. Ken's trip is almost identical to the trip featured below. It is a beautiful paddle at a beautiful time of year. Come join us!

Thank you to Ken for posting and organizing this trip.

Diane, Ken and I had a great day on the Charles River. We ended up paddling down past the Museum of Science, under the Zakim bridge, through the locks and in to Boston Harbor. In 4 1/2 hours we covered 13 miles at a comfortable pace with plenty of time to enjoy our surroundings.

Below is the public link to photos I took. Enjoy.
