Six of us did a trip from Granite Pier in Rockport to Thacher Island last Sunday. It was a perfect day for an exposed off-shore paddle with fantastic weather and very little boat traffic.
Thacher Island has a very rocky shoreline and is just about impossible to land on but there is a nice wooden ramp for small boats to use. Here is a video of Steve landing on the ramp. He was the last to land and seemed to have the most waves action following him in. http://vimeo.com/68014936
It's been taking me too long to write trip reports here, so I'm resorting to Bea's method and created an album on Facebook. Here is a link that should give access to the picture album even for non-Facebook users: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.603600622991530.1073741824.100000247920357&type=1&l=1b88bc9d6d
Bea has an album also and I'm sure she'll add a link to it if she's not off traveling around the world somewhere this week.

How cold was the water out there? Everyone looks rather lightly dressed for an offshore, North Shore paddle in June.

The water seemed cool, but not cold. We probably should have had some dry-wear on. But instead, we stayed close together and I only had people who practice rescues together on a regular basis.

Contrary to some who might criticize you, I think that is a legitimate strategy, especially in benign conditions. Being well-practiced in assisted rescues cannot be anything but an asset.
I will refrain from making this an essay on risk homeostasis, etc.
