Seasonal Skills Sessions (May 14th - First Thursday)

Post by kayakerjnj »

It’s that time of year again when we will start our Club’s Skills Sessions

Our first Thursday is scheduled for May 14th, 2015 (We alternate Thursdays in Hanson, to avoid low tides in Hingham)

We host these free sessions for all who wish to participate, Club Members and those who just wish to get involved.
We have been conducting these sessions for many years now. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of them.
The more proficient your skills are, the safer and more enjoyable your days on the water will be.

These sessions begin as early as 4 PM, and can last until sunset or until the group succumbs to the need to PPR :D (post paddle refreshment)

Here is our location we utilize in Hanson https://goo.gl/maps/3VUQ1

Our Skills Sessions are an informal and low key opportunity for all to practice in a well-supported environment of fellow paddlers – instructors.

We emphasize acquiring your safety essentials first, wet exit, self and assisted rescues etc. If you’re looking for more excitement, you can work on more advanced paddling strokes and your roll too.

There are many regulars who have worked to acquire advanced paddling skills and they often assist other people achieve their own goals.

PFD’s are a must. Nose plugs, and scuba masks help keep the pond out of your sinuses. You’ll want them if you’re practicing skills that will immerse you in the water.

The winter we had has set our warm up back a bit so the first few weeks are likely to be cool, so please bring cold water attire so you can stay warm when you're in the water.

We’re hoping for a great paddling season ahead.

Join us!

It should be a nice but cooler evening for our first Thursday in Hanson.

Plan to bring cool water attire and nose plugs for those who plan on getting wet / immersed.

Hope to see you there!

If I'm going to wear cold water gear, I'd much prefer that the air be cool as well. When the water is cold, but it's in the mid-80's, I roast in that dry top.

Hey Jordan!

I'm finally retired and want to join you for my first skills session with you! I've a question....I started a "meetup" group and am wondering if I can "invite" those with boats and interest to join me coming to the June 18th skills session. We are just getting going so I've no idea how many might want to join in, but I can limit the size (which I doubt will be a problem as so far I've only had at most 5 come to a meetup- lucky to get one or two).

If this fits for you, I'll post it. At any rate I will plan to see you there! :D

Congratulations Barb!

Feel free to bring whomever you wish. It's a big pond and it will be a good time! We've had as many as 18 people on our busier nights, so your 5 will be easy to fold into the mix.

See you soon!
