The Weepecket Islands August 22nd

Post by kayakerjnj »

Hi all,

This is one of Bea's favorites (not a condition of the challenge). :D

Launch from Quissett Harbor and venture over to the Islands, across Woods Hole through Hadley Harbor out through the NW Gutter.

8:30 Arrival, 9:00 AM Launch. (48 Quisset Harbor Road / Falmouth (GPS Address)

Always a fun trip, and usually has some interesting wind and water.

Please attend if your comfortable with wind and waves, and have all your self rescue skills.

RSVP by Friday @ 4 PM.

Tentative Route below

Awesome, Jordan! I'm in!

Pat: the distance is something like 12-14 miles (I think). The mileage depends on which gutters we check out etc.

All the way from here to there :D

Bea's correct, its not a very long trip, and there's lots of Island time too. Depending on the winds, the ride back can be a following sea breeze of a paddle back.

Sorry, Jordan

I have to back out of this trip. There is an annual family cookout, that is usually held in June, that is being held August 22nd, instead.
Next time.

Just got this message from Dennis who is listed as co-leader of trip and register

"John,

The trip is now filled. I’ll let you know if there are cancellations.

Hi John,

Not sure what trip you're referring to.

This one, I'm organizing is still open for those who wish to attend. :D

Earlier in this thread, there was some discussion of an AMC trip in early June. Is that what he's talking about?

Hi Pat,

You might be right, but I thought that particular trip took place several weeks ago.

I'm just guessing that maybe they've got some sort of auto-signup method where it doesn't check if the date has already passed. All it knows is that the trip is (was) full.

There is a trip that Josko and Dennis are leading for AMC out of Woods Hole on the 22nd I believe called Intro to Sea Kayak part 3, thus my confusion. Josko's trip was to be out of Falmouth/Woods Hole or Cohasset.

So Jordan - I'm in with your planned excursion this weekend. Anything else I need to know besides 8;30am mt-up at Quisett Harbor?

Sorry about the confusion - I suppose I should have put a date in the original AMC trip post.
FWIW, I'm leading another AMC trip in Woods Hole (this Saturday, 8/22). We'll meet a the Pie in the Sky bakery at 0830 and launch somewhere near the yacht club. Stop by the Pie if you happen by Woods Hole before 0830.

Wow, if Chip can make it then I'll have to make it too!

I'll be bringing a friend again.

Also, I'm planning to pick up Queen Bea as a carpool mate.

Hey, if we don't see you at the Pie in the morning, stop by and say hi just before paddling across the hole. We'll be in the 'gut' with the AMC class. Just a couple hundred yards out of your way, if that. Slack water ~1000.

Jordan,
As it turns out, too many things happening here for me to take out that amt of time in the day - even on a weekend :-( to make this trip/adventure.

Hope to catch up with you at a future one

Smooth sailing,
John

As usual, there is way too much on the plate this weekend for me. Something's got to give...so I'm opting out of the trip tomorrow. I REALLY wanted to experience this one but some looming deadlines...and some ethical commitments... simply argue against it.

Have a blast...and watch the weather out there.

Shame you guys missed a nice paddle.

We got a little bit of everything, and a good work out!

Not a beach day but a good day!

Thanks to the gang that made today a fun paddle!

It turned out to be be a good day despite the downpours that preceded the launch.
